I am trying to research the family & German origins of C. Juliana SCHWEIKERT(1836-1912). She married Ph. Lorenze (Lawrence) SCHUMANN(1834-1908)Note: We are not sure the birth dates are accurate, only estimates at the time of death. They are both buried in Nipgen, Ross County, OH.Family recalls that they came from Lancaster. They thought that meant Lancaster, PA.. I suspected it was Lancaster , OH and my proof is one of their oldest children, Caroline was
listed as being born in Lancaster, OH on Nov.28,1871. Carolines birth certificate states Julia SCHWIGERT as mother;
her marriage certificate states Julia SCHWIGGERT as mother; and tombstone reads "C.JULIANA SCHWEIKERT, born in Germany"

I am looking for information on the Coon family that was in Fairfield County from at least 1808 to 1831. George Washington Coon (b 1786, PA) and his brother Samuel both married Norths. George married Mary Burket
North on November 4, 1808. The marriage was at her father's house (Thomas Birkhead North) Samuel married Elizabeth North on January 4, 1810 in Lancaster Fairfield County. Little else is known about Samuel and Elizabeth.
George and Jacobs father is said to be "of German ancestry". That's all we know of him. George and Mary were in Hocking Twp, Fairfield County for the 1830 census. I believe they left the area for Indiana sometime after 1831. George and Mary had nine children: William, James, Thomas, Reason, George, Abraham, Nancy, Elizabeth, and Marion.
William Coon attended the Academy in Fairfield. Later became a physician and Indiana state  legislator. He moved on to Missouri. Other children went to Indiana, then on to Wisconsin, Iowa and Nebraska. I strongly suspect there was a change in name spelling shortly after their arrival in Ohio. George's last name is spelled "Koons" in one document and "Cone" in another. "Coon" can't be right for a German name.
raymond@damascusknife.com

Does anyone know if any of the records of the Fairfield "Academy" still exist? Following is an excerpt that describes it:
"History of Fairfield and Perry Counties, Ohio, AA Graham The first advance to better educational facilities in Lancaster was in the erection of the brick Academy, on Wheeling street, by a number of the most wealthy citizens, and which is the present modernized resi- dence of Andrew Bauman. This building was erected shortly before 1820. It was the enterprise of Philomon Beecher, Elnathan Schofield, William Irvin, Robert F. Slaughter, John Noble, Thomas Ewing, Gotlieb Steinman, John Creed, Hugh Boyle, and a few others. Mr. Whittlesy was the first man to teach in it. After him, and about 1825, the late John T. Brazee taught a six months' term. After Mr. Brazee, Professor Howe occupied it for a number of years, when the trustees sold the building to Dr. Bigelow for a private residence, some time  between 1834 and 1839.
After the abandonment of the brick Academy, Professor Howe built a frame house on Mulberry street, on ground belonging to Hugh Boyle, and reopened his school. This school was for many years known as Howe's Academy, and was conducted about ten years. In this school. and as pupils of Mr. Howe, General and Secretary Sherman, P. B.
Ewing, Boyle Ewing, J. C. Kinkead, and many others of Lancaster's young men and young ladies attended." I am interested in the years between 1820 and the closure of the original academy.
