I am seeking information on any of the following people:
George Washington Coon (variously spelled Cone, Koons), b. 1786, PA. who married Elizabeth Burket North (daugter of Thomas North) on October 28th, 1808 in Clearcreek Twp. George may have had a brother named Samuel (Coon, Koons, etc) who married Elizabeth North, and another brother Jacob. George and family were in Hocking Twp, Fairfield County during the 1830 census. Nearby were Jacob and Samuel. Sometime before 1833 they moved to Tippicanoe County, Indiana.
Another possibly related family I am seeking are the Dilsavor, Dillsavor, Dillsaver, Dilsaver, Dillsaver family. These two families: Coons and Dillsavors, were in Clearcreek Twp at the same time in the early 1800's. There may have been a marriage between a Hannah Coons (who may have been a sister of George) and Michael Dilsavor. I am seeking further proof of this relationship. Another possible relationship may exist between these families and Newhouse. It is possible that a John Coon(s) was the father of George and Hannah.

Interested in information on Vannatta/Vanatta and Murphy families in Fairfield Co., OH ca 1800-1820. Below is some brief information on them.

FIRST GENERATION
1. An Unknown VANNATTA had the following probable known children:
+2 i. John VANNATTA (born before 1787).
+3 ii. Aaron VANNATTA Sr. (born BET 1783/1784).

SECOND GENERATION
2. John VANNATTA1 (Unknown-1) was born before 1787. He was married to Mary MURPHY on 16 Nov 1807 in Fairfield County, OH. 1
3. Aaron VANNATTA Sr.2 (Unknown-1) died on 5 Mar 1859 in Jasper County? IL. 3 He was born BET 1783/1784 in Washington Township, Warren County, NJ?. 3 Per the 1887 Coles County, IL history book, Aaron and Nancy Vannatta were of Fairfield (probably Fairfield County), Ohio and then emigrated to the Territory of Illinois in 1816 and settled in Lawrence County (southeastern Illinois).
From Fairfield County, OH records: April, 1817---At an election held in the township of Reading, Fairfield County, Ohio, the following township officers were elected on the first Monday of April 1817: Overseers of the Poor, John Mains & Aaron Vanatta.
Per the Lawrence County, IL 1883 History, Peter Pargin was there in 1818 (north of the state road and west of the Embarrass river), followed by Aaron Vanatta in 1820 and he "improved the northwest quarter of the northwest quarter of section 10..." (Note that Lawrence County was formed from Crawford County in January, 1821, so this was really still officially Crawford County at the time.)
Aaron was listed on p. 43 of the 1820 Crawford County, IL census (no township listed) with the following data: Males: 0<9=3 (Aaron & ??); 10<15=1 (Samuel); 18<25=1 (unknown); & 26-44=2 (Aaron & ?); Females: 0<9=1; 10<15=1; & 26<44=1 (probably wife, Nancy). Four people were engaged in agriculture; probably the older males. Elijah Gibbs
(father-in-law of Aaron's son Samuel, who married Elijah's daughter, Lucy) was listed just two houses prior to Aaron.

Aaron Vanatta was a witness to the will of John Pargeon/Pargin on 20 August, 1821 in Lawrence County, IL.
Aaron was living next door to his son Samuel (separated only by John Swick who was later related by marriage to Beems) in the 1840 census. Aaron's family is listed in the 1840 Jasper County, IL census, p. 284, L.W. Jorden Twp., as follows: Males: 10<15=1; 15<20=1; 20<30=1; and 50<60=1 (Aaron); Females: 50<60=1.

Aaron was listed in the 1850 Jasper County, IL census as HH #529, Vanattacen, Aaron, 66, farmer, NJ; Nancy, 65, OH; and Stephen, 21, IL. They were living next door to Isaac Vanatta, 26, farmer, IL.
He was married to Nancy MURPHY on 19 Nov 1807 in Fairfield County, OH. 1 They were married by William Trimble, Justice of the Peace. Nancy MURPHY1 was born about 4 Mar 1782 in NJ?. 3 The 1850 census shows she
was born in Ohio, but this is doubtful, since it wasn't even a territory yet. She died on 6 Oct 1865 in Jasper County? IL.3 Her first name initially came from the 1887 Coles County, IL history book.

The following Murphy men were living in Pleasant Township of Fairfield County, OH in 1806:
Murphy, Asa
Murphy, Benjamin
Murphy, William

Benjamin and William were probably from Fayette County, PA per Bud Wilkinson.

In the 1820 Crawford Co., IL census, the following Murphys were listed (Aaron Vannatta, Nancy's husband, was listed on page 43):
p. 42 1 Murphy Jeremiah
p. 41 35 Murphy Moses
Aaron VANNATTA Sr. and Nancy MURPHY had the following children:
+4 i. Samuel VANNATTA (born in 1808 in Fairfield Co., OH).
+5 ii. Aaron VANNATTA Jr. (born on 10 Oct 1819).
+6 iii. Isaac VANNATTA (born about 13 Aug 1831).
+7 iv. Eleanor VANNATTA .
+8 v. Sarah VANNATTA.
+9 vi. Mary Jane VANNATTA.
+10 vii. Stephen VANNATTA.

Caroline Stouder) Abigail Rogers b. about 1828 (in 1850 Fairfield Co. census is living w. sister, the Henry Stouder family) Margaret Rogers b. about 1831 and married a Wilson A son named either Herbert or Robert Rogers b. about 1840 Caroline Rogers born about 1843. Rather a gap in ages with these two last  children, but then is all rather sketchy information that I have inherited.

I am gathering information on John Coon/Coons/Cuntz/Koontz who arrived in Ohio in about 1799 in the Ross/Pickaway/Fairfield County area. (The boundaries changed frequently as new counties were formed and re-formed). I am searching for a link between John and my GGGGrandfather, George Washington Coon (1786, PA) George had at least two brothers, Samuel and Jacob, and possibly a third, Isaac. They are in many records in the Fairfield County area
from 1808 to about 1830. John is believed to have settled with his family in the Clearcreek Twp, Pickaway County area. Land records show that in 1813, two sons, George and Samuel bought land in Hocking Twp, Fairfield County. The 1820 census shows George and his family, Samuel and his family, and a Hannah and her family in Hocking Twp. I am assuming that John died prior to 1813 and that Hanna was Johns wife. Two members of her household are adult males and I am guessing that these are Jacob and Isaac. In 1830 there is no Hanna listed but both George and Samuel are still there and Jacob is the head of his own household.
I have a couple of different unpublished histories that tell of John Coons coming from Old Redstone Fort (Uniontown) Fayette Co., Pennsylvania with the Moore, Newhouse and Dillsaver families in 1799 or 1800. John Coon is said to be the brother-in-law of Henry Moore. The records also state that John had been in Fayette County for about 10 years and had come from somewhere on the Schuylkill River about eight miles west of Philadelphia prior to moving west.
John is said to have been a bricklayer or mason and may have been allied with the Dillsavers in
business since they also had at least one bricklayer that was a contemporary of John and a member of the family later owned a brickyard.
The records show almost all possible variations of Coon but I am reasonably sure the pronounciation, at least, was "Koontz"
John Cuntz signed a "Petition to Congress dated August 22, 1799 from the subscribers residing on the publick lands on the East side of the Scioto River, in the Territor Northwest of the Rever Ohio 1787-1803 " OHIO RECORDS & PIONEERS vol XXXIII p25-26
John & Isaac Koontz signed a "Petition to Congress dated February 20, 1801 from the setlers on the publick land between the Waters of Muskingum, and Sciota River, in the Norhtwestern Territory." Territorial Papers of the US, vol III, The Territory Northwest of the River Ohio 1787-1803. p23 -25 OHIO RECORDS & PIONEERS vol XXXIII
John likely had other children: Barbara, Nancy, Hanna, and John.

SMITH's In Fairfield County
I am writing and researching for a book on the Smith family History. The Smith's arrived from Shenandoah valley VA. to central Ohio in the early 1800's. One branch was from William Smith Sr. whom lived in Franklin Co. Ohio. His youngest sonby his first wife was William Jr. He stayed in the area near Reynoldsburg. He had three children: Alexander (1845-1915), Moses and Jennie Smith . Alexander had 7 children, some of these children lived in Violet twp., of Fairfield County area. They were Closson G., Audra, Wakwlin B., George C., Vilura, Carl W. and Alpha Smith. Of these children, Closson (1872-1941), Wakwlin (1877 - 1939), Vilura (Smith) Taylor (1879 - 1971), and Carl W. Smith (1883 - 1970) seemed to stay near and buried in Pickerington, Fairfield Co. Ohio. If any one can give me information on these last four children and their children, I would very much appreciate it. I have no children listed for Wakwlin or Carl Smith. Obituaries of either of these people would be great!
