1808 in Fairfield County, Ohio is the earliest known year and location that I have for my ancestors, George, Samuel, and Jacob Coon. In various records the name has been spelled Koontz, Koon, Cone, etc. I have looked for years for some clue to help me figure out where they might have come from before arriving in Ohio - to no avail.

I have turned to genetic research to try to help me link to other lines of Coon, Coonce, Kuhn, Koontz, Coontz, Koon, Koons, Kuntz, etc., who might have been in the area at the same time. People usually moved in groups at that time and sometimes the extended family went along also. I suspect that Isaac Koontz may have been related since my Coon line's name was spelled Koontz in the 1820 census.

POPE,BOPE,BUBB Seeking information on John Christian Bubb's, aka Johan Christian Bope, burial location. He died in September or October 1812 in Fairfield County and left sons in the Ziglers Corners area just north of Lancaster. He was born in Gemany (most likely the Palatine) and arrived in Philidelphia circa 1730. He came to Fairfield County in about 1800 or 1803 from Rockingham County, Virginia. Some sons took name of Bope and at least one other, the name of Pope. Records in Virginia indicate a surname of perhaps PUP, PUPP or PAUPE. The name change, relocation from Virginia and the loss of the 1790 Census records have frustrated the seach. The Bubb surname appears in the Fairfield Deed records.

I am searching for information on my GGGrandfather, Valentine Kastner. I know very little and what I do know is hearsay from a high school paper my sister wrote on family history. The information was given to her by my deceased mother and this man would have been her Grandfather that she never knew. The only reason I am searching in Fairfield Co. is because I do know that a Valentine Kaster of France was granted naturalization in Fairfield Co. in 1842. I traveled to your courthouse to get a copy of this paperwork. It has led me nowhere though. My mother seemed to think that this man had lived in Columbus, Oh and then moved to Springfield OH but I can find no record of him in Clark Co. He was purportedly in the newspaper business, possibly owning a small newspaper. He was a Lutheran and came to US from the Alsace-Lorraine area of France/Germany. He had two sons that I am aware of and they were born here in US. One possibly in Columbus, OH in 1844 (Henry Valentine Kastner). He shows up in Dayton, Oh after the Civil War. I know his unit, when/where he entered military etc. His brother, Charles Emil Kastner b. 1848 where? d. 1917 in Dayton, OH. was my GGrandfather. It was my mother's remembrance that one of the son's of Valentine buried him in Springfield, Oh. I could not find him and am wondering if my mother got Springfield, Oh and Lancaster, OH mixed up. So if the Valentine Kastner that was naturalized in Fairfield Co. in 1842 is my relative maybe he is buried in the area? possibly a Lutheran cemetery?

I recently purchased a picture postcard on Ebay; it shows an excursion boat full of people and is lableled "The Past times Boat Ride, Buckeye Lake, OH". I would like to know if anyone has any information about this boat ride, presumedly around the lake and/or to and from the Buckeye Lake Amusement Park. My great uncle Harry Pairan owned a hunting and fishing club (?) by the same name as the boat, and a bowling alley by that name (in Lancaster?); are there any photos in existance of the boat, the bowling alley and the club house? Harry was also the owner and founder of the old Buckeye Lake Pop Bottling factory that was located on land adjacent to his home on Shell Beach in Fairfield County; I would very much like to have a couple photos of the old building and (if there is one to be had) a photo of the factory in its "hayday". Harry's wife, Mildred (Millie) was sister to my gf William E. Berry and daughter of Marion and Missouri Berry who owned and operated the "Berry Hotel"! on Buckeye Lake (I would very much like to locate a picture of the old hotel, inside and outside). GF William E. Berry was half owner/operator of a fleet of boats on Buckeye Lake, from launches to paddle-wheelers, down to various sizes of row boats;they would take people on excursions around the lake and up and down the canals to see the beauty and sights of Buckeye Lake; it was possible to rent the rowboats by the hour or by the day for fishing or just spending a day relaxing on the water; it also shuttled tourists to and from the Buckeye Lake Amusement Park. The "fleet" of boats played a crucial role in rescuing people from flood waters in Columbus, OH in 1913; men from Buckeye Lake went on a special train to take the boats to Columbus and stayed to man the oars and take an active role in rescuing people from the roofs of their homes or plucking survivors out of the waters. My grandfather was hailed as "The hero of the 1913 Flood" due to his participation in the rescue actions, and several other men from Buckeye Lake and Columbus. I'd ver Anyone who has any photos, or newspaper articles about my grandfather, great uncle Harry Pairan, the Berry Hotel, the "Past times" enterprises, the Columbus, OH flood of 1913, the Buckeye Lake Pop bottling plant, etc.

I found a brief resume of the Feasel family at the Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The resume was written by Hubert Feasel. The entry for Barbara reads:
Barbara, born ca. 1813/14 and death date is unknown. She was married to Joseph Hudson/Hutson by a Land Deed, dated September 14, 1830. They apparently sold their dower interest in the farm to a Andrew M. Scott and Elizabeth his wife, and Jacob bought them out. Barbar's name was on the bond for guardianship, dated, October 25, 1826. A Joseph Hudson purchased linen and chickens at Mary's estate sale - February 1, 1856. (end)
What is meant by 'married by a Land Deed'?
Would there be any "official" record of the marriage, & if so, where would I find it?

I am looking for information on the Peter Bowman family. Specifically, his son Reuben who married Sahah Bradley in Fairfield county in 1832. I would like to find the names of Sarah's parents. A Peter Bowman appears on the 1830 census in Amanda twp, Fairfield county and also a Christina Bowman. I know that Peter Bowman moved to Ohio in 1816 from Pennsylvania and was married to a Christina Fagley and that they had 14 children before moving to Ohio.Does anyone know if the Peter and Christina Bowman on the 1830 Amanda twp census were husband and wife? Also on the same census there is a John Bradley and he is on the same page as Christina Bowman,so I am wondering if he is the father of Sarah Bradley Bowman. I understand there may be descendents of Peter Bowman's 14 children still living in Ohio so I would be interested in hearing from anyone doing research on his family or who share him as an ancestor.

CRONE OR CROWE OR WORK? Martha and Nancy were sisters(?). Some have their maiden name as Crone but I have it as Crowe. Martha Crowe the wife of David and grandmother of Permelia Work was b about 1776 in Pa. I believe her and David were married there too. Because acc to the bio of Wesley Work, David brought his family to Oh. and their son Joseph was b there. She d 10 Jan 1853 and is buried in Zion Church Cem Hocking Twp. Fairfield Co. Oh. She is shown ont he 1850 Census living with her son Joseph in Hocking Twp. FF Co. Oh . Nancy Crowe was the wife of David's brother Joseph. Her birthplace is Maryland abt 1778 ( I need to ask her about the source on that.) She died on or after 22 Nov 1822.(The date of birth of her lastchild). Joseph might have married his cousin Nancy Work. So Martha and Nancy are not sisters? Please help me prove the two women's connection with these 2 brothers! How can I obtain a list of persons buried at the Fletcher Chapel Cemetery in Liberty Township, Fairfield Co, OH? I recently received an email telling me there is an Idaho Eddington buried there and other family members...this could be the younger brother of my g.m. Catherine H. Edington and her mother and father and/or her grandparents as well.
Idaho Eddington was born in May, 1887 and died prior to 1900. His father was Jacob Edington, born in 1857 and died between 1883 and 1900. His mother was Mary A. Hamilton (Edington) born abt. 1857 and died between 1883 and 1900. His paternal gf was Isaac Edington, born abt. 1835 in Licking Co, Oh and died between 1880 and 1900 in Walnut Township, Fairfield Co., OH. His paternal gm was Elizabeth Edington, born Nov. 1837 (Perry Co.?) OH, died after 1910 in Walnut Township, Fairfield Co, OH. Isaac & Elizabeth also had a daughter, Samantha Edington b. about 1859 (she married a Murphy in Walnut Township, Fairfield Co) she died abt. 1880-1900. Perhaps the entire family attended the Fletcher Chapel church, and that is why they would be buried there? Is there a list of burials that can be looked at for this family? (Especially, Idaho, Mary Ann, and Jacob Eddington?) Exactly when and why this family died is a mystery to their descendants...we'd like to know if there was a tragic accident, or maybe an epidemic of some type that "wiped them out".

Were there annual tax records of any type kept in Fairfield Co. that would list the persons residing in a residence at any given year? Most places had chattel tax records...would that list the residents of each household? I am particularly interested in Walnut Township, the community of Lakeside for the time period of 1880 through 1899 and trying to varify if Jacob and Mary Edington lived in a home seperate from that of Jacob's parents, Isaac and Elizabeth Edington. Was there such a thing as a "head tax" that would list everyone residing in a single dwelling? I'm trying to come up with a record that would varify the existance of the family of Jacob and Mary Hamilton and their children; the 1890 OH Census would have done that for me, but unfortunately it was destroyed by fire in Washington. I know where most of the family is buried in Fairfield Co and have copies of Marriage license application for the two daughters that survived the death of Jacob and Mary Edington, as well as birth and death records on one unnamed infant and the son Idaho, but lack a marriage record for Jacob & Mary, nor have evidence of their having lived as a family by themselves or with his parents, Isaac & Elizabeth. Anyone have an idea as to how I may investigate them further to finish documenting their relationship and residency?

RUFF, LOEFFLER, LEFFLER-- Searching for information about a Frederick Ruff b. 1812-1813, Wurttemburg, Germany and Rebecca Leffler (or Loeffler (guess birth to be about 1806-1809 who were married in Fairfield County, OH and removed to Marion Township, Hocking Co. to live and raise their family. Most Censuses say Rebecca's birthplace was PA, one said Virginia. I beleive she is from the Fairfield County area because that's where they were married. I'm also looking for any other information at all about Rebecca or Frederick prior to their marriage. Earliest census either shows up on is 1840 in Marion Township, Hocking County. Some land records there for Frederick in early 1830's as well.

Frederick was born in Dobel, Wurttemberg, Germany according to censuses abt. 1812, Rebecca Leffler (or Loeffler) Ruff abt. 1809 in Ohio. They married in Fairfield County and raised a family and died there. FISHER, FRANK or Daniel
Frank Fisher, born about 1852 in Ohio, was located in Illinois in 1870. Subesquently moved to Nebraska. Upon his passing,he referenced a brother, residing in Illinois. The 1860 census for Hocking Township, Fairfield County lists a Willis Fisher(wife Mary Ann)family. Daniel and Frank apparently became separated or lost from any remaining family members, and we are wondering if the Willis Fisher family may be theirs (Frank and Daniel are listed as household members in the 1860 census). Willis and Mary Ann were shown with one child, Hannah in 1850 in Amanda Township census.
