I have the index of cemeteries of Liberty township Fairfield County but
there are no Johnstun or Johnston's listed. If you know of any books, web sites or person that may be able to help me I would appreciate it.
My last is spelled Johnstun, I don't know why some of us are Johnston and
others are Johnstun, there is probably an interesting story behind it though. 12-29-2005

In 1880 Andrew Shell, age 62(b. VA 1818) is listed as a Hotel keeper, with
his wife, Rachel, age 52 (b. OH 1828) as "keeping house" along with five of their children and a Samantha A. Edington, age 21(b.OH 1859) listed as a servant; in 1900 I no longer find any listing in Census for Andrew Shell or spouse, Rachel; I do find their son, John Shell, age 46(b.1854 OH) with a wife Samantha A.,age 41 (b. 1959 OH) in Thorn Twp.,Perry Co.,OH...so I
believe he married Samantha A. Edington Bet. Sep.-Dec 1880 in Fairfield Co.
Is there anyway of varifying if Andrew Shell died in Fairfield Co. and when ? (Aft. June 1880 and before June 1990)It appears that his spouse, Rachel Shell died sometime during the same time period, so I'd also like to locate a death date on her as well.
I wish to varify a wedding date for Samantha A. Edington and John Shell in
Fairfield Co., OH in the year of 1880...that's when I'm looking as their
first child was born August 1881.11-28-2005

Let's swap info and create a Grove family tree. Thank you!

The body was shipped home for burial. His sister was known to me as aunt Lucy (Luts) (sp?) I believe Alcinda was born in 1859 and the maiden name may have been Gold. Thomas died on 7-16-1919 shortly after my mother's birth. His daughters were Dorothy Mary young (my mother born 5-07-1917)and Edith young born 1913 in Cheyenne. SURNAME: MOHLER, BUGH, GORDON
Does anyone know what happened to the records of the NEW SALEM METHODIST PROTESTANT CHURCH? As I understand it, the Methodist Protestant and Methodist Episcopal Churches in New Salem merged at some point. The church was eventually closed (in the 1930s?).
Members of both the paternal and maternal lines of my family attended the church - including the families of George Washington MOHLER, ROY GORDON, and Virgil BUGH.
If anyone knows who I might contact to find out about the records, I would appreciate the help.
SURNAME: ALLEN, BUGH, ORTMAN
I am seeking information about the family of John and Rosa ALLEN who migrated to Fairfield Co before 1850 when they were located in the town of NEW SALEM. John was a carriage maker. In most census records, John's birthplace is listed as Pennsylvania and his birth date ranges from 1833-1837; his father was an immigrant from Ireland.
John's wife Rosa was born in VA - probably West Virginia (which had not yet become a state when she was born).
John and Rosa had 3 daughters - Clara, Grace, and Maria, all born in VA/WV. Maria was my gr-grandmother. She was born in 1860 and married Martin Cranley BUGH (1848-1927). Martin's first wife was Mary Margaret (Maggie) ORTMAN (1856-1878), the daughter of Simon ORTMAN who owned a dry goods store in New Salem and lived two doors away from the John ALLEN family. Maggie died during the birth of her first child, and Martin then married Maria Allen.
I am trying to learn more about John and Rosa ALLEN. Family tradition says that their daughter Maria was born in West Virginia. I suspect that her mother Rose/Rosa was born there as well. So John, who was born in PA, probably went to WV where he met Rosa, had 3 daughters, and then settled in New Salem.
Does anyone have any information about this family? The only other information that I have is that John, Rosa and daughter Grace moved to Missouri about 1900. Daughter Clara was a school teacher on several Indian reservations in California and Oklahoma.
Thanks for any assistance you can provide.
